Developing Unconscious Competence – Ocean City Portion
August 8, 2015 - August 9, 2015
I’m working with Cross Currents Sea Kayaking to teach the Ocean City portion of Rick’s Developing Unconscious Competence series. The Ocean City portion will focus on tides, currents and surf. Here’s the full description… contact Rick at Cross Currents for more information.
This multi-day series focuses on longer-term paddler development and moving people to “unconscious competence” at the BCU 3*/ACA L3 level. There will be 4 evening sessions and five weekend sessions, for a total of about 11 full days of training. The series will begin in mid-May and end in mid-August, with training/practice sessions occurring about every 10 days. There is the expectation that participants will commit to attending all the sessions and that they will practice diligently during the weeks in which there is no formal training session.
All the skills (strokes, rescues, navigation, risk assessment, group awareness, etc) that are included in the level 3 BCU and ACA curricula will be covered. The goal – in addition to building competence – is to prepare people thoroughly for a 3* or L3 assessment in late summer or early Fall. However, rolling instruction is not included.
